Telegraph:’You have to take one to give one sometimes’: Haunting final interview of British boxer Scott Westgarth who died after winning fight

Tributes have poured in this morning for the British boxer Scott Westgarth who has died aged 31 after a brain injury sustained during his bout with Dec Spelman in an English title eliminator at The Dome, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on Saturday night.

Westgarth had earned a win on points over Spelman, but had earlier been knocked down on the ropes just before the bell for the end of round 10.

The boxer from the North East looked uncomfortable during a post-fight interview before he was taken ill, with images on social media showing him clearly in pain.

Reports suggest that Westgarth returned to his dressing room, and was then taken to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, where he later died.

Telegraph:Five people including young boy killed in ‘massive explosion’ in Leicester

Five people including a young boy have been killed after an explosion caused a convenience store and the flats above it to collapse.

Local people said the “enormous” explosion shook properties up to 500 metres away and left many people inside houses in neighbouring streets in a state of shock.

Witnesses have described how people were clawing through the rubble in an attempt to look for survivors.

The blast took place at the former Western Park Store which changed to Zabka Leicester on January 2, and the owners have confirmed that none of their staff were among those seriously injured.

Five others were taken to hospital, one of whom remains in a critical condition.

Telegraph:Canadian cruise ship passengers admit smuggling cocaine worth £12m into Sydney

Two Canadian cruise ship passengers have pleaded guilty to smuggling cocaine worth $21 million (AUD) (£12m) into Sydney on a cruise ship which set off from Britain.

Melina Roberge, 24, and Andre Tamine, 63, both from Quebec, changed their plea shortly before they were due to stand trial on drug importation charges

Australian Border Force (ABF) police found 200lbs of cocaine stashed in suitcases when they boarded the vessel at Sydney Harbour with sniffer dogs in August 2016.

They discovered 77lbs of cocaine in a cabin shared by the two female passengers and an additional 130lbs in Mr Tamine’s room.

ABF had identified the trio as “high risk travellers” on board the vessel which was under increased scrutiny due to the large number of ports it had stopped at. They concluded the trio were part of a “very well organised syndicate”.

Telegraph:£15bn boost to UK growth as watchdog set for embarrassing U-turn

The OBR slashed assumptions in November, reining in expected productivity growth and warning that the deficit would rise in this financial year.

However, strong numbers in the intervening period mean economists expect the watchdog to reverse some of that gloom, a move that would shrink the deficit and deliver a £15bn windfall to the Chancellor.

Growth in the UK’s dominant services industry has surged in the last three months with profits rising at the fastest pace since November 2015, according to a new CBI survey.

Meanwhile, confidence among businesses and professional services is growing with a further pick-up anticipated in the coming three months.
