Parkland, FL kids are returning to school today. Say a prayer for them as they continue in recovery.

DallasMorningNews:How the 1993 Waco standoff began with a bloody gun battle that federal agents now regret

Bill Buford can hear the eerie quiet as he and other federal agents ride up to the Branch Davidian compound, the silence broken by a voice on the command radio channel — “There’s no one outside.” Pete Mastin peers through a slit in the canvas concealing him and his colleagues and mutters, “Jesus, that thing’s huge.” John Risenhoover takes his first step and the zings and bangs register: They’re shooting at us. Rounds kick up dirt as Blake Boteler runs and fires back at muzzle flashes in two upstairs windows.

Twenty-five years later, they tell it as if they’re back on that Central Texas prairie on a gray, wet Sunday morning. It’s Feb. 28, 1993, and two trucks with cattle trailers carry them and 72 other agents of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms into the worst firefight in U.S. law enforcement history.

DallasMorningNews:Texas doctor killed couple on his family compound while their kids watched, authorities say

San Antonio doctor faces a capital murder charge after authorities say he killed two of his neighbors while they helped his mother Sunday morning.

Anthony and Tiffany Strait had gone to the Fadal family’s gated compound, a couple of blocks from their home, shortly before noon to help Fadal’s mother move a piece of furniture, according to the Seguin Gazette. A sign posted at the gate wishes “peace, love, health and happiness” to everyone who passes through it.

Robert Edward Fadal II, 56, of Seguin was booked into the Guadalupe County jail and remains in custody, with bail set at $2 million.

“There are no indications there was a feud, disturbance or anything precipitating or justifying the shooting,” sheriff’s Lt. Craig Jones said at a news conference.

DallasMorningNews:Northwest Dallas neighbors worried about gas leaks after deadly blast demand answers from Atmos Energy

A meeting that opened with a moment of silence for the 12-year-old girl who died in a house explosion quickly turned contentious Tuesday night when northwest Dallas residents worried about their safety voiced their fears and frustrations to city and Atmos Energy officials.

The neighborhood has been rattled since Friday’s blast,  a pair of nearby house fires and evacuations because of a gas leak.

While the meeting was occurring, Atmos discovered another gas leak at Fire Station 43 in the 2800 block of Lombardy Lane, less than two miles from the school, and firefighters were evacuated, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

The meeting Tuesday night at Foster Elementary, one of the sites evacuated, started by remembering 12-year-old Linda Rogers.

Atmos PR punted every important question to the NTSB.
