DailyMail:Parcel filled with ‘nails and shrapnel’ en route to Austin explodes at a FedEx site in San Antonio as FBI probe link to serial bomber
* Package ‘containing nails and shrapnel’ exploded at FedEx facility in Schertz, San Antonio, at about 12.30am on Tuesday
* One female employee was taken to hospital after suffering a mild injury
* The package, bound for Austin, detonated while moving between conveyor belts
* Authorities say the blast is likely linked to four other attacks this month in Austin that have left two people dead and four others injured
* Just hours after the package explosion in San Antonio, emergency crews were called to a FedEx facility in Austin following reports of a suspicious package
* Police warn a ‘serial bomber’ is at large and say the devices appear to be getting more sophisticated each time
* Latest blast follows a Sunday night explosion that was triggered along a street in Austin by a nearly invisible tripwire
* The first three were parcel bombs dropped off in front of Austin homes
* Authorities don’t appear closer to making any arrests in the five bombings
* President Trump has been criticized for his silence over the bombings which have targeted victims from Austin’s historically black and Latino neighborhoods
Abc13:Police investigating suspicious package at FedEx facility in Austin
Hours after a parcel bomb exploded at a FedEx facility near San Antonio on Tuesday morning, a suspicious package was reported at a FedEx facility in Austin.
The Austin Fire Department tweeted that a hazardous materials investigation was underway at the building on 4107 McKinney Falls Rd.
NbcWashington:2 Students, Suspect Injured in Shooting at St. Mary’s Co. High School
A student pulled out a gun and shot two other students at a high school in southeast Maryland Tuesday morning before the shooter was wounded, the St. Mary’s County sheriff says.
The gunman entered Great Mills High School in Great Mills, Maryland, at the beginning of the school day and shot a female student in a hallway, Sheriff Tim Cameron said live on News4. A male student also was hit by a bullet.
Information was not available immediately on the relationship between the students, Cameron said.
The shooter exchanged fire with a school resource officer, a trained, armed deputy sheriff, Cameron said. The shooter was wounded; the officer was not.
All three are in critical condition.
Kyodo:Key ex-bureaucrat in document scandal to testify in Diet on March 27
Opposition parties had been calling for the summoning of Nobuhisa Sagawa, who stepped down as head of the National Tax Agency, a unit of the Finance Ministry, earlier this month.
He will give sworn testimony in the Diet on March 27 over the falsification of government documents linked to cronyism allegations against Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan’s ruling and opposition parties agreed Tuesday.
He is alleged to have made false remarks in parliament last year related to a heavily discounted sale of state-owned land to a school operator with connections to Abe’s wife Akie.
Abe has said he will step down if he or his wife are proven to be guilty of wrongdoing.
Documents appear to have been doctored and other details in the read.
NYT:Alex Stamos, Facebook Data Security Chief, to Leave Amid Outcry
Related to Cambridge Analytica
As Facebook grapples with a backlash over its role in spreading disinformation, an internal dispute over how to handle the threat and the public outcry is resulting in the departure of a senior executive.
The impending exit of that executive — Alex Stamos, Facebook’s chief information security officer — reflects heightened leadership tension at the top of the social network. Much of the internal disagreement is rooted in how much Facebook should publicly share about how nation states misused the platform and debate over organizational changes in the run-up to the 2018 midterm elections, according to current and former employees briefed on the matter.
Mr. Stamos, who plans to leave Facebook by August, had advocated more disclosure around Russian interference of the platform and some restructuring to better address the issues, but was met with resistance by colleagues, said the current and former employees. In December, Mr. Stamos’s day-to-day responsibilities were reassigned to others, they said.
